Laundry

Laundry

A slightly neglected room during renovation because it`s often small and has only one use. However, it is an important room to busy people and always a high traffic area.

A laundry must be clean - very clean. Nothing is more appealing than a clean, tidy laundry. De-clutter and remove all personal items such as golf clubs, sporting equipment, shoes and store out of sight. When a buyer looks inside an over-stuffed cupboard it sends a message that the room doesn’t have enough storage. Remove everything, even if it means having to it put into storage.

The whole interior colour scheme for this room should be of calming neutral colours using washable gloss. Cupboard doors should be painted the same as the walls to make them “fade out” and make the room look larger. Find a high shelf and put all chemicals etc there, buyers with children will appreciate it.

Gone are the days when the lady of the house would sit and iron for hours. If possible, provide a handy build-in iron board that folds up against the wall.

The laundry is the only room that floor to ceiling cabinets will look ok. Use wall space for cupboards. Some bench space is important. Make sure there is a space for a washing machine and dryer.

If the laundry is all on one wall consider enclosing it with bi-ford doors to streamline the room. Open storage cubicles, wire baskets and shelves don’t look tidy, even if everything is folded neatly. A simple curtain across these areas will give a clean line to the room.
