Renovating and Allergens

Your prospective buyer may have allergies, or children with allergies. Dust, mould and pets, even some smells can cause allergic reactions or allergies – so consider these points and remove allergens from the property when preparing your property for sale.

Prior to open home inspections keep your home light, airy and well ventilated. When your home is clean and allergy free, it creates a warm, inviting and welcoming feel. Potential buyers will love this. Don`t use air fresheners or burn essential oils, as people can be allergic to them.

Dust mites cannot breed on smooth hard floor finishes like timber or cork, so consider these if renovating floor surfaces.

If you prefer carpets choose synthetic fibre with rubber underlays. It`s important to vacuum carpets often and steam clean regulary. Vacuum cleaners that have filtration systems are best because they do not spread allergens through the air.

When considering air-conditioning, reverse-cycle is the best for eradicating dust and mites. For allergy sufferers, electricity is the best form of heating because there are no flames requiring oxygen that will stir up allergens into the air.

Condensation occurs with variant temperatures in homes. It is generally not harmful unless it occurs over a long time. Anything that promotes the growth of mould, mites or bacteria will cause the home to take on an unpleasant odour.

Keep lids on your pans while cooking and dry clothes out on the line. Keep steam from the bathroom away from other areas in the home. Extractor fans also help in reducing allergens, so consider installing some.
